Microneedling and PRP
Port St. Lucie
At Porcaro Cosmetic Surgery, we are excited to complement the multiple treatment options we employ in your skin rejuvenation with Micro needling, with the option to receive Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)!
Microneedling causes fractional facial rejuvenation, also known as collagen induction therapy, by stimulating your own body to produce collagen, a critical component of skin that is lost with aging!
Very fine sterile disposable microneedles painlessly make microincisions in your skin.
Microneedling results in skin tightening and significant improvement in the quality of your skin by stimulating the activation of stem cells, growth factors, fibroblasts, elastin and collagen production.
The addition of your own Platelet Rich Plasma at the time of microneedling (affectionately referred to as a “Vampire Facelift”) may further enhance the result of your microneedling session.
When you chose this option, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is harvested from your own blood. After Dr. Porcaro draws your blood, the blood is centrifuged, separating the Platelet Rich Plasma from the red blood cells and other blood components.
Dr. Porcaro will coat your face with your own PRP, which then gets embedded into your skin by the oscillations of the microneedles during microneedling. Additionally, Dr. Porcaro will coat your face with your PRP at the end of the microneedling session enabling additional PRP skin penetration.
This Platelet Rich Plasma effectively “supercharges” the microneedling session by the addition of activated growth factors, stem cells and other healing elements, resulting in improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, reduction in pore size and improvement in skin texture.
A controlled skin injury occurs in response to your microneedling. Your body heals these thousands of tiny punctures by producing new collagen. Improvement in your skin texture and wrinkles anywhere you are treated can be expected.
Microneedling is particularly effective for the wrinkles of photoaging. Your “smoker’s lines’ of the upper and lower lip, wrinkles in your brow and crow’s feet, your acne scars and chicken pox scars can be significantly improved.
Your prominent skin pores can also be reduced with microneedling. Your age spots, hyperpigmentation as well as dilated capillaries and spider veins can be improved.
Wrinkles in the décolletage of the upper chest, as well as wrinkles of your neck and hands, keloid scars and stretch marks also respond very favorably to microneedling.
Another benefit of microneedling, even if you elect to forgo PRP, is that it enables Hyaluronic acid, which Dr. Porcaro applies to the skin at the time of the microneedling, to be directly injected into the skin thru the tiny microchannels.
Hyaluronic acid, a critical component of the skin, hydrates and rejuvenates the skin and is largely responsible for the skins’ youthful appearance.
The direct placement of hyaluronic acid into the skin while microneedling provides a significant benefit over topically placed hyaluronic acid. (Hyaluronic acid is present in many skin creams but poorly absorbed into the skin when applied topically.)
Many of the most popular “fillers” are hyaluronic acids, such as Restylane, and Juvederm.
A tremendous advantage of microneedling is that it has been shown to result in just as much improvement as with fractional lasers, Fraxel, IPL treatments and deep chemical peels but without the risks of burns, hyper or hypopigmentation and scarring.
These much more aggressive treatment modalities that work by burning the skin, already abandoned by some physicians including Dr. Porcaro, have a significantly longer recovery and are several times more expensive than this simplier, microneedling procedure.
You should see benefits 2 weeks after a session and the full benefit of new collagen production will be appreciated at 4-6 weeks.
You will need at least 2 sessions about 4-6 weeks apart for improvement in your complexion. The treatment of your acne scars may require 4-8 sessions, typically 4-6 weeks apart. Stretch marks may require 5-6 sessions. To maintain your result after microneedling, 2 treatment sessions annually are typically required.
Technique: Using a topical anesthetic, it takes about 20 minutes to numb your skin. While you wait for the skin to become numb, Dr. Porcaro will draw a sample of your blood and harvest your platelets when you choose to have your microneedling session done with your PRP.
You will not need sedation or pain medicine, nor will you require any preparation beforehand. Dr. Porcaro will perform your microneedling session, which takes about 20 minutes.
The microneedling device allows Dr. Porcaro to customize your treatment by adjusting the depth of the microneeedling, depending on the area(s) you wish to have treated.
Your recovery should be quick, painless and predictable, with minimal downtime. For the first day, your skin will look and feel like you got a sun burn. Redness is typically gone in a day or two. You will need to apply SPF 50 and avoid sun exposure immediately afterwards. You can apply clean makeup starting the day after your microneedling session.
