For the second time, I had the privilege to participate as an oral examiner for the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery(ABCS) annual exam for Board Certification in Cosmetic Surgery.
In order to qualify to sit for the ABCS examination, candidates must be Board Certified in a recognized surgical specialty such as general surgery, plastic surgery and facial plastic surgery. Applicants are required to successfully complete an approved year long fellowship training program in cosmetic surgery, submit an operating log, before and after photos and pass a written examination in cosmetic surgery.
The ABCS has out grown its former examination site in Chicago, where I was examined (and passed!) and now examines all candidates in a state of the art testing facility in Dallas, Texas: a facility used exclusively by multiple ABMS specialties. The qualifying criteria to challenge the ABCS board certification examination and the examination process itself, meet or exceed those required by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
